Rereleased as a board book, I Carry Your Heart With Me is a children's adaptation of the beloved e. e. cummings poem which tells the story of a mother carrying her child and then introducing her to the wonders of the world. It is beautifully illustrated by Mati McDonough. This book is definitely one of those inspirational gems that is suitable for all ages, from one to 100. 

In her first children's book, artist McDonough imagines the mother-child relationship as the centerpiece for the e.e. cummings poem about love. 

Showing the strong bond of love between mother and child, within nature and throughout life, cummings' heartfelt words expressed through McDonough's tender artistic interpretation of this familiar poem and lovely illustrations combine to create a fresh, yet classic, portrayal of love.

• About the Author

• e. e. cummings (1894–1962) was among the most popular, influential, widely read, and revered modernist poets of the 20th century. His verses have inspired countless readers, and his total body of work includes nearly 3,000 poems. Cummings preferred his name be abbreviated in all lowercase letters. His many awards included an Academy of American Poets Fellowship, two Guggenheim Fellowships and the Bollingen Prize. • Mati Rose McDonough lives in San Francisco where she regularly encounters lucky elephants, talking birds, and a mysterious girl who always wears feathers in her hair. These creatures of mystery and grace remind her daily that no one is too old for magic or too young for beauty, so she paints their stories for fans of hope and adventure all over our dear world. McDonough studied painting at the California College of the Arts and has had many shows around the country. She has been featured in several magazines and books including Artful Blogging magazine and The Handmade Marketplace.

Thousands of children are living in detention in the United States. This year alone, nearly 45,000 unaccompanied children have been apprehended on the Southwestern US border. Most of these children are fleeing violence and oppression and they are all seeking a better life in the United States.

Children seeking asylum in the United States are often traumatized either before or along their journeys, and all of them are justifiably, as children, ill-equipped to fight for their freedom and prolonged happiness in a system designed to thwart even adult asylum applicants.

As the largest immigration legal services provider in Texas, (where so many have been detained) RAICES attorneys and staff are uniquely suited to address the needs of unaccompanied children.

These kids don’t deserve to go to court alone. They deserve a chance to live a safe and successful life. Children with legal representation are 5 times more likely to win their case for asylum, making an immigration attorney the first and most important step in a child’s fight for asylum.
