Since the turn of the century (1900, not 2000), tools and techniques had been developed to make possible the mass production of toys. Since plastic had yet to be invented (I know, right?) toys were made out of wood, paper, cloth or metal. Some of the most popular toys were tin toys with powerful stamping machines cutting and forming their pieces out of printed sheets of tin.

Sometimes considered old-fashioned or unsafe by today’s standards, tin toys were consistently the most exciting and realistic toys that cold be made. It was a time when a child’s imagination could be sparked by a simple toy.

With the rapid introduction of plastic after World War II, this signaled the end for tin toys as we know it. Plastic toys were cheaper, safer and easier to produce so they flooded the market. Fortunately, a handful of factories kept the art of tin toys alive for future generations to enjoy.

When you have infinity on your mind, it’s sometimes difficult to make friends. Everyone needs a great companion. Rover the Space Dog is a multi-action wind up toy. His mouth opens and closes, his ears flap, his eyes roll and sparks fly as he waddles along.

This Schylling Collector’s Series toy is designed and manufactured with the same care and attention to detail as the originals dating back to the early 1900s.  “Built” in 1999, this has never been out of the box, living on the shelf in a non-smoking home but now looking for a new companion in a new forever home.

The Schylling Collector Series preserves the tradition of the tin toy. Rover the Space Dog is a classic among classics and, for the true collector, continues to be a lasting memory of what toys used to be.
